Architectural Signage Design & Integration
Our first CPD looks at the design and manufacture of architectural signage, including the different materials, finishes and construction methods available.
We explain how signs producers create them and how their construction can affect their appearance, dimensions, and installation.
The presentation also looks at how signage fits within an architectural scheme, from individual room identification signs to larger directional and building identification signage.
Architects will gain a better understanding of the available manufacturing options and how they can incorporate these into their specifications.
Signage CPD: A Closer Look at Fixings
How do you fix a sign to a wall without any visible screws? What happens when the wall construction won’t support the proposed fixing? And what options are available when a sign needs to sit away from the finished surface? These are some of the questions we address in our Sign Fixings CPD.
We cover several fixing methods, including concealed fixings, stand-offs, rail systems and adhesives, explaining how they work and when they can be used.
The presentation also looks at fixing signage to different surfaces, including masonry and plasterboard, and why the substrate needs to be considered when selecting a fixing method.
We discuss suspended signage arrangements, including ladder and daisy-chain systems, and the installation requirements associated with them.
It’s a useful session for anyone preparing signage details or specifying signs that need to work with particular wall and ceiling constructions.

Architects don’t necessarily need to know every stage of the signage manufacturing process, but understanding how a sign is made and installed can make a difference when developing a design.
For example, specifying a concealed fixing without considering the wall construction can create problems during installation. Similarly, the proposed material or construction method may need to change to achieve a particular size or finish.
Our CPDs explain why these situations arise and the options available.
They also give architects the opportunity to ask questions about specific materials, fixing arrangements or signage details they’ve encountered on their own projects.
