What Does a Signage Survey Actually Check?
A signage survey checks that what has been designed will actually work on site.
Drawings give us sign locations, dimensions and specifications, but they cannot always show the conditions we will find when we manufacture and install the signage. During a survey, we check the details that could affect how we make, fix or install each sign.
sign locations and dimensions
We check the proposed sign locations, available space and key dimensions against the drawings.
Where signage needs to fit between architectural features, align with doors or glazing, or sit within a restricted area, accurate site dimensions become particularly important.
By checking these details before manufacture, we can identify differences between the drawings and the completed building before they cause problems on site.

What Are We Fixing To?
We check the surface and substrate at each relevant sign location.
This allows us to select suitable fixings and identify where the project may require additional support, pattressing or a different fixing detail.

can we actually get to it?
We consider how our installation team will reach each sign location.
For high level or difficult to access signage, we identify whether the installation will require MEWPs, scaffolding or other access equipment. We also consider restricted working areas, pedestrian routes, traffic management and site access.
By identifying these requirements during the survey, we can plan the installation correctly and allow for the necessary access equipment.
where is the power?
For illuminated signage, we check the position of the electrical supplies against the proposed sign locations.
If we find a supply in the wrong position, the project team can address it before installation rather than relying on visible cabling or additional electrical work.
We can also coordinate requirements with the electrical contractor where supplies, cable routes or connection points need to change.
a signage survey will flag What Is in the Way?
We check the area around each sign for anything that could affect its position or installation. Identifying these conflicts before manufacture gives the design team time to adjust the position or fixing detail where required.
How Will We Install It?
We look at the practical requirements for installation while we are on site.
Can we deliver the sign to the required area? Do we have enough space to work? Have other trades completed the surrounding finishes? Can our installation team access the area safely?
For larger external signs and totems, we may also check vehicle access, lifting requirements, ground conditions and excavation areas.
Does Every Sign Need a Signage Survey?
No. If the project team provides accurate construction information and confirms the dimensions, substrates and fixing requirements, we can manufacture some signage without carrying out a separate site survey.
Arrange a Signage Survey
A site survey gives us the opportunity to find and resolve potential problems before we manufacture the signage.
If you have a signage package ready for review or need site conditions checked before manufacture, our team can help identify what needs to be surveyed and plan the next steps.
